Water First Training and Education

In numerous Indigenous communities across Canada, tap water is not safe to drink. Water First Training & Education Inc. is Canada’s leading charitable organization dedicated to working with Indigenous communities to resolve local water challenges through education, training, and meaningful collaboration.

The Drinking Water Internship Program hires and trains young Indigenous adults for careers in water science and is welcomed by Indigenous communities that view training and skill development as a key part of the solution to drinking water challenges.

The Environmental Water Program engages young adults in learning skills that help their communities to best manage their water resources.

Finally, the Indigenous School Water Program inspires Indigenous youth to pursue careers in water science through hands-on water science workshops, in the classroom and out on the land.

Food For Life

Food for Life has been Impacting Lives and Rescuing Food in Halton and most recently the Hamilton area for more than 26 years.

We are the largest food recovery organization in the Region.  Food for Life Canada reclaims and redistributes millions of pounds of GOOD surplus food each year from local farmers, wholesalers, and grocery stores.

This donated food is 90% perishable (meat, dairy, fruits, vegetables, prepared foods) and would otherwise end up in the waste stream due to overproduction, slight blemishes, and/or close to best before dates. In 2021, we rescued and distributed close to 5 million pounds of surplus GOOD food.

This GOOD food is then packed and shared with individuals, families, and seniors who need barrier-free nutritious food.

Each week Food for Life packs and distributes 3,000+ fresh food bags through 100 different food programs and partners to ensure GOOD food keeps moving in our community.  Learn. Donate. Share.
